[Harp-L] comb material
I can hear a difference in comb material on the intonation of chords;
chromed brass and wood are more forgiving than plastic, but the
difference is ONLY in my head. When I record the different combs, I
can not tell the difference. This is because the microphone is not in
my head and each mic colors the sound as does the speakers. The
difference between combs is so slight, but the difference between
mics, speakers and rooms is big, big, big.
Unless you play acoustically and alone in your own room only, then
combs and covers are not important. Mics, amps and speakers will
color your sound much more, not to mention EQ. And I think I am the
only harmonica player that plays with out any amplification in concert
situations.
BTW, I have had CBH 2016's made of solid chromed brass, wood covers,
you name it and I still play the plastic CBH because it is lighter and
cheaper and in the final recording or on stage, you can not tell the
difference.
Harmonically yours,
Robert
